Learn to Let Go

Does your life sometimes feel chaotic or out of control? Whether you are feeling emotionally upset, physically challenged, or simply stuck, then consider this: Let Go and Let God.

You have probably heard the phrase dozens of times but have you ever given it a try? Most of us struggle to truly let go, particularly in situations where we feel like we’ve lost control. Then, even if we do finally let go, we may continue to worry and that can take us right back to the place we started. So, how can we break the cycle?

Consider the following scenario. Imagine that you’re holding a paperback book in your hand. How much does that little book weigh?

No matter what you answer, the weight of the object doesn’t really matter. What’s important is how long you hold onto the book.

If you hold it for about an hour, your arm will probably start to hurt or you will have to hold it in your other hand for a while. Now, imagine that you have to hold onto that little book with the same hand for a whole day. By the end of the day, your arm would feel totally paralyzed.

The fact is, no matter how long you hold onto the book, the actual weight of the object will never change but it will feel heavier with each passing minute.

Stress is like that. You can hold onto your worries for a while and it feels like nothing bad is happening. But the truth is, the longer you think about them, the more you will start to hurt. If your stress piles up, eventually you will become paralyzed and unable to do anything.

Leave your worries at the door and don’t carry your burdens with you through the evening. I encourage you to give this exercise a try. When you take off your shoes at the end of the day, take a deep breath and try giving your stress over to God. Chances are your burdens will feel much less heavy with each passing day. Let go and let God.
