Give Thanks

Updated: Mar 26, 2022

When we walk into a room and we flip a switch, light comes on like magic. We don’t really stop to consider how that works, how blessed we are to have electricity. There was a time when people didn’t have that, when they had to make fire to create light. But, today, we can create both light and flame with just a flick of the wrist. Think about how easily we acquire shoes and clothes, about how easily we can travel and communicate.

I think it’s important to step back and examine where we are in life. How do we stay connected to the earth, to nature, and to the beauty that is all around us? Appreciate the beauty of your back yard or wake up a little earlier just to watch the sun rise.

If you would, take a moment today and think about how easy your life is compared to the lives of our ancestors. Appreciate how convenient things are for us. If we want to go 100 miles down the road, we just hop in a car and go. So, as you flip on that switch or when you make your coffee or tea in a little machine, think about what you’re grateful for today.

As you embrace that thankfulness, recognize what it is that you appreciate. Maybe you’re thankful for your spouse, for your kids, or maybe even for your relationship with God. We should be grateful to have all of these things. So, the next time you go outside, take off your shoes and get your feet dirty. Step into the water and be grateful for the rain.

Remember that even if all of our modern conveniences went away and all we had were our skills and nature, that would be worth it.

Tip to Take Away

Think about what you’re really grateful for. What are you thankful to in your life? Take a moment, think about that, and wrap your arms around it. Have a joyous day.
